6 ways to overcome imposter syndrome
Imposter syndrome can show up for even the most successful business owners. Feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt, perfectionism, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of being “found out”. These can all be linked to imposter syndrome.
84% of entrepreneurs will experience imposter syndrome at some stage and it appears to be more common in women than men. So here are 6 ways to help you overcome it:
- Become conscious of the thoughts and ask is this ultimately true? Chances are it probably isn't!
- Create a list of all the amazing things you have already achieved. There are so many things you should be celebrating! Take a pause and write them down.
- Journal it out. Ask questions like why do I feel this way? When did I first feel this? Who made me feel inadequate and do I want to continue to give my power away to them?
- Hold yourself in a confident posture. Put your shoulders back, your chin up and smile (even if it's fake!) Your emotions are affected by your physiology and vice versa. Or try the famous wonder woman pose! Stand with your hands on your hips and chest out. It may feel silly or uncomfortable at first but after 5 minutes you will feel more confident.
- Think back to a strong memory when you felt really confident or successful (feel it in your body)
- Do a single belief change with a trained coach. Certified coaches have tools and techniques that can help you identify the core belief that is causing this feeling. Then they can work through it and re-frame the belief to a more positive one.
